NC GRANTOR-GRANTEE INDEX PROJECT
There is now an ongoing effort to try to get the grantee and grantor indices for N.C. counties formed prior to 1790 transcribed and placed on the NCGS Website, under the new “Members Only” portion. This tool will help locate ancestors before the U.S. census began.
We have had several responses but we need much more help to make this project viable. As we get a county finished, it can be placed on the site.
Get some volunteers together and start your county now. Contact Ann C. Basnight for more information.
Proofreader Needed
Have you been wondering how you can get involved with your state genealogical society?
NCGS needs a Volunteer Proof Reader. Work in the comfort of your own home – on your own schedule.
The project involves proof reading electronic copies of scanned documents against original paper copies. A PC (or access to a PC) is required for viewing the electronic version. Internet access is NOT required. Mistakes will be marked on the paper copies and returned to NCGS for correcting.
If you are excellent at details, please email FirstVicePresident@ncgenealogy.org or write to NCGS First Vice President; P. O. Box 1492; Raleigh, NC 27602
